Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2) is an upcoming open world, western action-adventure game developed and published by Rockstar Games. The third installment in the series is certainly one of the most anticipated sequels to a video game in the last decade, with rumors of the game's production surfacing at the release of Red Dead Redemption. 

In Red Dead Redemption 2, players will revisit the wild west in a time and place they haven't seen before. This time players will be dropped into the role of Arthur Morgan, the right-hand man of one of the most infamous gangs the west has seen.

Game Story Overview

America, 1889. Witness the slow but steady extinction of the Wild West as a member of the Van Der Linde Gang, who after a bank robbery goes south, are forced to flee and live in a transitory camp. The gang is forced to live by the law of the land to survive, and if being hunted by the government and the best bounty hunters wasn't enough, rumblings within the camp threaten to collapse it. Arthur can become the glue that holds them together and help them overcome the lawmen, but does he want to?

Game Key Features

Red Dead Revolver

While classified as an action-adventure game, a big component of Red Dead Redemption 2 is shooting. As a gunslinger in the Wild West, Dead-Eye and the Weapon Wheel make their returns, along with familiar shooting mechanics. 

Wide Wild West

Red Dead Redemption 2 increases the already-expansive world of the previous installment by including the aforementioned's map in its entirety, and introducing 4 new regions that are collectively a similar size to the original map. While the sheer size of the map is crazy to think about, the most impressive element is what it contains. 

200 species of animals have been confirmed in the game, most of which are up for grabs via hunting, fishing, or wrangling. Hunting has been revamped to provide a more realistic experience rather than simply blazing through the wild on horseback and shooting down your prey. 

Howdy Neighbors

If rumors are to be trusted, NPCs in Red Dead Redemption 2 are going to be groundbreaking for open world games; over 1000 voice actors are said to have voiced the NPCs, giving each of them a unique personality and interaction with Arthur. Unlike other open world games, these NPCs aren't just mindless bystanders that let all your misdeeds go unnoticed. For example: if you go into a town to rob a bank and get noticed, even after you've served jail time or paid off your bounty, NPC civilians will remember you and will even interact differently with you according to your past behavior. 

Similarly, if you take Arthur on an adventure through the marshes or slaughter an entire rival gang, and you left with stains or dirt on you, NPCs will take notice and also change the way they interact with you until you wash up. 

Red Dead Realism

One of the biggest mechanic changes in Red Dead Redemption 2 is the introduction and heavy emphasis on survival. Arthur, like any other person, will need to eat, rest, wash up, and run errands to enable all these things, to survive. Ignore eating a proportional amount, and you'll face penalties and physical changes. Refuse to rest and wash up, suffer in-game consequences. 

Breaking the Bronco

Horses are no-longer disposable meat vehicles that can be launched over cliffs for your amusement, and called back via a whistle after a minute. The Horses of Red Dead Redemption 2 have feelings -and hyper realistic anatomical parts- and players will benefit from taking care of their horses. Successfully doing so will create a bond, and with a great bond, comes grey benefits.
