Dear Uncle Tacitus is a Story Mission in Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2). This is one of the "Main Quests" of the game and players must complete it to advance the Story. Completing Story Missions opens up Stranger Missions as well as additional content throughout the game.

Looking For Home
After getting off the boat from Guarma, Arthur Morgan (you) makes his way to Shady Belle. Once you arrive, you'll need to search the house for any signs of the gang. Enter the area of interest and search the house.
When you search upstairs, before you can find anything, you'll hear Pinkertons emerge on the scene. They talk about their orders from Andrew Milton to check this house everyday then they enter it. You'll have to silently take care of them to avoid getting spotted. Wait upstairs and one of them will make his way up. Stealth kill him first then head downstairs. If you're not quick enough, the one by the table will point out a letter he found and read it out. It's addressed to "Uncle Tacitus" from "Caroline|", a code used by your group, telling you the location that the group has gone. To make sure there are no loose-ends, Stealth kill the remaining three Pinkertons then pick up the letter and go to the location given on the map - it will show up as an area of interest on the map.
Once you arrive at the area, you'll see Pearson, Mary-Beth Gaskill and Sadie Adler outside one of the houses. They greet you and bring you inside to immediately transition to the next mission, Fleeting Joy.
