Healthy Lifestyle Information

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is a brand new mechanic brought to Red Dead Redemption 2, in efforts to take their focus on realism to the next level.

Eating & Diet

In Red Dead Redemption 2, they have introduced food to be less of a token addition, and more of a mechanic that affects your overall gameplay. Eating, as in real life, will refuel you and get you ready for your next adventure. Much like in reality, if your energy(food) intake doesn't match your expenditure, you don't maintain your weight; if you eat too much, you gain weight, and vice-versa. The same rules apply in the game, and are physically visible. This can affect your in game stats, and even change the way some NPCs interact with you.

Food

You may purchase meats and foods from a General Store, or hunt it yourself. All food items are listed below:

Resting

Much like eating, resting affects your in-game stamina, or better the lack thereof. Be sure to rest in between every couple of mission to keep you in tip top shape.

Cleanliness

Keeping yourself clean also comes into play, however with less importance. Entering a muddy area, or leaving a bloodbath will result in Arthur being drenched in the respective substance. This changes the way NPCs interact with you. You can correct this by jumping in a pool of water, or letting whatever substance eventually dry off, and clear itself -though you should probably do the former.

The same effects apply to your horse, more details on that here.
