Home of the Gentry? is a Story Mission in Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2). This is one of the "Main Quests" of the game and players must complete it to advance the Story. Completing Story Missions opens up Stranger Missions as well as additional content throughout the game.

Reformed
John Marston (you) heads to the bank in Blackwater. Speak to the clerk and he'll direct you to Ansel Atherton. Here you have a conversation with Mr. Atherton, discussing the possibility of a bank loan to buy the Ranch in Beecher's Hope. You give him your recommendation from David Geddes and despite wanting to purchase the ranch under your real name, he grants you the loan and asks you to check the place out before you sign any paperwork.
Relapse
Head over to the "Strangers" point of interest at Beecher's Hope. When you arrive you find three squatters at the torn up cabin. When you tell them you purchased the land and ask them to leave, and they give you a moronic response about how this is a free land. You can now choose to either intimidate them or give them some money, to try to get them to leave. Remember you need all the money you can get to pay off the bank loan so intimidate them and they'll try to start a ruckus with you. Put that to an end with a quick Dead-Eye triple tag.
Once they've been dealt with, return to the bank to finish off some paperwork and secure the loan.
Recovery
After signing the papers, you leave the bank only to run into none other than Uncle! You greet each other and he convinces you to let him accompany you. On your way, you discuss what you were doing in the bank and the situation with your family. Upon arriving, Uncle teases the purchase you just made before signing on to be your right hand man for the ranch. After failing to shoo him away, you agree to take him on, and another montage ensues to build the ranch up.
After the cutscene ends, you're moved into Epilogue 2: Bleecher's Hope, and you have a semi-finished ranch.
