The New South Walkthrough

Boys Day Out

When Arthur Morgan (you) approaches Dutch Van Der Linde, you speak about the current situation before he suggests to go out fishing in a creek Hosea Matthews found. The three of you get on your horses and ride out, reminiscing about the old days, and speaking on future plans. Dutch also emphasizes the need to not stir up too much trouble and keep your heads down, especially in Rhoades.

Eventually you come across a prisoner transport wagon, containing none other than Josiah Trelawny. Dutch introduces himself under an alias to try and reason with the men to let Trelawny free, and as he does this, the rest of the captives in the wagon escape and hitch a ride on the outgoing train. Dutch volunteers your services to help catch them, and you take one of the officers with you.

Outlawmen

Chase the train, and continue to do so until the officer suggests you ride along the side of it and jump on. By this point, one captive has already fallen off the train and it's your job to round up the rest of them by throwing them off the train. Do this until there is only one left and he run into a freezer compartment. When you confront him, he pulls out a knife and you have to beat him unconscious.

When you achieve that the officer will thank you and ask you to stow the last man you beat on the back of your horse, to bring him in to the Rhoades Sheriff's Office, as he's Anders Anderson, a top dog for the Anderson Boys. He thanks you on your way back and you arrive at the Sheriff's Office, with Hosea, Trelawny, and Dutch waiting for you. You hand over Anders for the freedom of Trelawny.

After you leave, Trelawny expands on what the officer was telling you on your way here, about the family feud ruling this town. He also mentions talk of "super agents" hunting Dutch down before parting ways with you. When he leaves, Dutch still fixates on the feud between the Braithwaites and the Grays, and asks you to find more out on the Grays. He then proposes you still go fishing, to which you can accept or refuse.

Fishing!

Granted you accepted the offer to fish, call your horse and ride out with Hosea and Dutch. On the way the three of you will speak more on Trelawny and the situation in Valentine. You also have the option to ask Hosea to either expand on Trelawny or about the fishing, and Dutch about the bounty on his head or Sheriff Gray. When you're close, Hosea will say so and when you reach the spot, you'll all get out and grab a fishing boat to push into the water.

You learn to row as you navigate the boat out into the open. Here you can fish until you don't want to anymore by pressing the L1/LB button to put your rod away. Once it's time to go, you row back, keeping the boat for yourselves, and joining in in song all the way back until you dock the boat at camp.
