Exit Pursued by a Bruised Ego Walkthrough

How Bout' it?

Hosea Matthews proposes the two of you track down and hunt a massive bear he saw recently, to which you agree to. Before you ride off, Hosea mentions a horse he picked up a bit ago and is looking to offload. He suggests the two of you make a stop at Valentine to sell it and use the money to get a new horse for yourself. You agree and put your saddle on the horse and ride off with him. Follow him until you reach Valentine.

When you arrive, he'll tell you to go to the Stable where you will be able to sell your horse, and buy a new one. You are now walked-through all the features of the Stable including horse and tack customization. Once you're done with the horse equivalent of 'Pimp My Ride', the Groom will give you a Horse Brush which can be used to clean your horse, on the go. Rejoin Hosea, and continue on the expedition.

Bear Grylls

You continue to ride towards the bear's last seen location, and through a conversation with Hosea, the reason for Arthur's coldness of John Marston is revealed. As they approach the site, it cuts to a cinematic of the two of you riding along some gorgeous landscapes. When it cuts back, you're still riding along a rocky hill. Continue to follow Hosea and once he stops speaking, you'll be able to ask him either about Sean or Micah. As you continue along, he spots some Black-Tailed Hares and Hosea suggests you shoot and catch one to make for some food later. Find one and kill it. Once you do, skin it then stow the rest of the carrion on your horse to collect extra meat.

Hosea suggests you set up camp now as it's getting dark, so go into your inventory and do so at the point of interest on the map. Once you do, it will skip to night time and Hosea will suggest cooking the hare you just picked up. You can do so by going into the crafting menu in the campsite and selecting the "Game Meat". Once you've cooked it, have your meal then go to sleep to continue your hunt tomorrow.

When you wake up the next day, Hosea will teach you how to make Potent Predator Bait, once again in the craft menu at the campsite. Once you're done, pack up the campsite to get going.

Predator or Prey?

Follow Hosea's lead to the river, and you learn a bit about Hosea's former partner and his want of a fresh start. Once you arrive at the river, Hosea will tell you to look for any traces of the bear. Use your Eagle Vision to find the paw prints by the water. Once you find those, activate your Eagle Vision again and follow the track to the second clue, a half-eaten fish. From the fish, follow the trail to a pile of bear dung, and finally, follow the trail from the bear dung until it ends. Here Hosea will ask you to either place the bait or split up and look for it. The choice is yours to make.

Split Up - Hosea eventually finds the bear and flees from it, asking you to shoot it.

Place the Bait - You place the bait and wait with Hosea, and nothing happens. So you go to adjust the bait and that's when the bear jumps out to attack, and it's up to you to gun it.

When you've shot the bear enough, it will flee. You'll find Hosea behind a rock gasping. Shocked by the size of it, Hosea gives up his hunt and decides to head back to Horseshoe Overlook. You can either go with him, or stay to hunt the bear, but either way, the mission is complete.
