Fleeting Joy is a Story Mission in Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2). This is one of the "Main Quests" of the game and players must complete it to advance the Story. Completing Story Missions opens up Stranger Missions as well as additional content throughout the game.

 

Fleeting Joy Mission Details

Arthur is reunited with the gang at Lakay. Milton arrives with his Pinkertons, and attacks the camp.

 

 

Fleeting Joy Objectives

  • Kill 2 Pinkertons during the Dead Eye ambush
  • Get 5 headshots with the Gatling Gun
  • Get at least 70% accuracy with the Gatling Gun
  • Complete the mission without taking any health items

Short Reunion

Arthur Morgan (you) enters the cabin that the rest of the members of the Van Der Linde Gang are residing in. They welcome you and it cuts to night time, and Dutch Van Der Linde walks in. You learn that John Marston was arrested and sent to Sisika Penitentiary. After a speech from Dutch,  Bill Williamson enters angrily, complaining about the amount of people he's has to ask to find the group's whereabouts. That's all cut short by the sound of Andrew Milton's voice screaming his arrest order from outside. He then cues one of the many Pinkertons with him to open fire using the gatling gun.

The whole Van Der Linde Gang takes cover on the floor and you crawl out the backdoor with Sadie Adler. She leads you down through the swampy shortcut into the house next door. When you arrive, you push the doors open and go into Dead-Eye and target as many Pinkertons as you can. Once you've come out of Dead-Eye, fight off the Pinkertons entering from the swamp. When you kill enough of them, you'll be instructed to use the gatling gun. Once on it, use it to eliminate a big portion of the oncoming Pinkertons, from multiple directions. Kill enough of them and they will begin to retreat.

A cutscene will show you dismount the gatling gun, coughing a little hard. Dutch will thank you for your help and talk about a plan for the future. Abigail Marston will plea with you to save John from the prison and Sadie will tell you to meet her at another location to begin trying to free John.
